The College of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare has released a statement regarding the use of progestogens and the risk of intracranial meningioma

Hormonal contraception and rare brain tumours:-

Recent research suggests that some hormonal contraceptives may be linked to a very small increase in the risk of a rare, usually non-cancerous brain tumour (meningioma). The overall risk is low, and most people do not need to change their contraception. Some types (including the contraceptive injection and certain pills) may carry a slightly higher risk, especially with long-term use. If you have concerns, or have ever had a meningioma, please contact us on (0191) 5699966
